Description

The advancement of genomics and bioinformatics methods has revolutionized research in basic and applied biological fields. While molecular techniques have evolved rapidly over the last few decades, the underlying biochemical principles behind most of them have changed a little. Validation of molecular assays is an essential component of quality assurance. At the molecular level sequencing generates absolute proof of DNA alterations. For this reason, DNA sequencing remains an essential and powerful tool for the molecular biologist. This course will highlight the power of DNA Sanger sequence information. Trainees will be trained according to an automated Sanger sequence protocol. This hands-on course will empower the trainee with all the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to use the tool of DNA sequencing to its fullest potential.

In this context, the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Research Laboratory offers a 5-day training program entitled "Hands-on Training on Sanger Sequencing Techniques and Sequencing Data Analysis" both in May 2024 and November 2024 at the Centre for Advanced Research in Sciences (CARS), University of Dhaka for empowerment of Human Resource in Genomics & Biotechnology Activities.Program includes:

  1. DNA extraction from blood and tissues
  2. Gel electrophoresis and gel documentation
  3. Nano quantitation of DNA
  4. PCR of DNA using a specific primer and gel check
  5. Cycle Sequencing of PCR product
  6. Purification of cycle sequencing product
  7. Sequencing run using SeqStudio genetic analyzer
  8. Data extraction and analysis by software
